Racetrax Fan’s Trifecta Ticket Delivers $30,879 Prize

Lucky “Cyncha” found herself in the Racetrax Winner’s Circle after placing a Trifecta bet.

No. 10, 11 and 12 horses pay off for Baltimore resident

Lucky “Cyncha” of Baltimore has her Racetrax game-playing technique down pat, thanks to tips her retired father shared from his days betting the horses at Pimlico Race Course and other horse-racing tracks.

The grandmother of two often joins her retired father at Woodlawn Mart in Baltimore to play Racetrax and relax in the friendly store’s comfortable stay-and-play area. She said she typically tracks a series of races in the computer-animated horse racing game, and then plays a Trifecta ticket. On the day Lottery luck brought all of her horses home for a $30,879 win, “Cyncha” placed a Trifecta bet on horses No. 10, 12 and 11 to finish in that exact order in five races.

Although she stayed to watch the horses cross the finish line, “Cyncha” didn’t see the winning numbers for all five races.

“I didn’t really know if I won,” said the 56-year-old. Only when the father-daughter team checked her $5 ticket on the retailer’s ticket checker did they realize that she was, in fact, a big winner. A hushed consultation with Woodlawn Mart employees confirmed her $30,879 prize and then the two quietly left the store.

The mother of two plans to keep her good fortune a secret and will save her winnings – for now. Her father, who accompanied her to Lottery headquarters to claim the prize, kept teasing her that his home of more than 40 years could use some repairs!

Their favorite retailer, Woodlawn Mart, is also a winner. The Baltimore County store located at 1818 Woodlawn Drive earned a bonus of $308.79 from the Lottery for selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.

Four horses gallop across the finish line together for $16,191 win

An Essex man who started playing the Maryland Lottery’s popular Racetrax game about a month ago enjoyed a winning case of beginner’s luck. The 52-year-old joined the ranks of the game’s big winners with a $16,191 Superfecta Box win on Dec. 12.

A friend showed him how to play and suggested he always place Superfecta Box bets, which require a player’s four horses to finish 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th in any order. Luckily, the novice Racetrax player listened to his friend when he placed his bet at the Quick Mart in Towson! His horses – numbers 2, 7, 9 and 10 – galloped across the finish line together to win the big cash prize.

The winner told Lottery officials that he woke up on Dec. 12 feeling lucky and headed to the Quick Mart to place a few Racetrax bets. After several days went by, he remembered that he had a few tickets to check for winners.

“I took my tickets back to the store to see if I won anything,” he said. “The retailer seemed a little surprised, too, when he told me that a ticket was too large for him to cash. That’s when I started getting excited.”

The loyal Lottery player is no stranger to winning other games. He claimed a $6,000 prize over a year ago on a Pick 3 ticket.

The happy man said the Racetrax prize will certainly make for a more generous Christmas this year. “Now I can splurge a little more on my family friends this holiday season,” he said.

His lucky Lottery retailer also wins! For selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more, Quick Mart located at 8604 Loch Raven Boulevard earns a $161.91 bonus from the Lottery. The bonus equals 1 percent of the prize.

$224,529 win is game’s second biggest ever in Maryland

A self-employed Lanham landscaper made the Maryland Lottery Racetrax record book last week when his Superfecta bet delivered the second-largest prize in the game’s history in Maryland. While his favorite game delivered, the avid player credits his $224,529 prize to Keno.

The Prince George’s County man found Lottery luck waiting at Seabrook BP. “I had a set of numbers that I wanted to play when I walked in,” he said. “The first thing I saw, though, was their Keno monitor with the numbers 8, 9, 10 and 11 on it. They just spoke to me.”

He placed a Superfecta bet on that set of Racetrax numbers for 10 games, hoping his horses would cross the finish line in that exact order – 8, 9, 10 and 11. The loyal player then drove off to a client’s property to work. When he finished the job, the landscaper checked the Racetrax game results on his Maryland Lottery app.

“When I saw those four numbers, my heart started pounding. I pulled out my tickets to make sure that I’d really played them. I had!” With that confirmation, his excitement grew too big for the inside of his vehicle. “I jumped out of the truck and shouted ‘Halleluia!’ ”

The happy player said his prize arrived at a great time. “I’ve had some setbacks recently, work and otherwise. This win really is a blessing. I’ll be able to set some things straight and put money back into my business, get some new equipment I’ve needed,” he said. “I’ve had this feeling for a while now, that a Lottery win was coming my way. Ask my friends Mr. T and Mr. Steve, they’ll tell you!”   With his confidence rewarded and his bank account expanded, the owner of the second biggest win in Maryland’s Racetrax history is setting a new course. “I’m off to a fresh start.”

The top prize ever won, $361,842, came Dec. 10, 2015 on a Washington, D.C. player’s Superfecta bet. The “Superfecta Superstar” bought his lucky ticket at Wawa #562 in Upper Marlboro.

Also celebrating our landscaper’s big win is the Lottery retailer. Located at 9501 Lanham Severn Road in Seabrook, the retailer earns a $2,245 bonus from the Lottery for selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.

Ronald Dyer of Frederick smiled from ear-to-ear while claiming his $172,185 Racetrax prize.

Superfecta ticket delivers fourth-largest payout in Maryland Racetrax history

Ronald Dyer’s shouting may have alarmed some neighbors last Friday, but there was plenty of reason for him to be celebrating. When Ronald scanned his Racetrax ticket that day with the Maryland Lottery app on his phone, he discovered that he won $172,185.

“I just started yelling and dancing around,” the Montgomery County bus operator said. “My wife ran over to me and my kids ran out of their rooms. They were probably concerned at first, but then they saw me holding the ticket in my hand.”

Earlier that day, Ronald stopped at his favorite Lottery retailer, Jefferson Street Exxon, and purchased a Quick Pick Racetrax Superfecta ticket for 20 draws.

“When I saw my numbers on the ticket were 12-10-11-2, I thought to myself that my chances of winning were slim,” Ronald said with a smile. “I guess I was wrong!”

In the fourth race out of the 20 on his ticket, the computer-animated horses finished in that exact order, delivering a historic six-figure payout.

Ronald’s ticket paid the fourth-largest prize in the history of Ractrax, which the Lottery launched in 2006. The state’s largest Racetrax payout was $361,842 on Dec. 10, 2015, when the “Superfecta Superstar” bought his lucky ticket at Wawa #562 in Upper Marlboro. Just a few weeks ago, the second-largest Racetrax prize went to a Lanham man, who claimed $224,529. The third-largest was March 22, 2017, when a Bowie resident won $194,188.

A 53-year-old father of five, Ronald said he plans on paying bills, putting away money for his children’s college education and having some fun.

Ronald’s lucky retailer is a winner as well. Jefferson Street Exxon, located at 400 South Jefferson St. in Frederick, will receive a $1,721 bonus from the Lottery for selling a winning Racetrax ticket valued at $10,000 or more. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.

Superfecta bet delivers big prize for Owings Mills resident

An Owings Mills woman dreamed up the perfect ending to a couple of rounds of Racetrax — a $32,655 win!

The loyal player, who works as a registered nurse at a Baltimore’s hospital, heads to a Lottery retailer to place Trifecta and Superfecta bets in the computer-animated horse racing game when she has a dream with numbers featured prominently. This time, she dreamed she was at a train station asking directions for a street. She was told in her dream, “Go to 538.” The lucky mother and grandmother remembered the dream when she woke up.

“When I had a chance, I went down to the store and played 538,” she said. A Racetrax regular for six years, the 71-year-old placed a Trifecta bet with those three numbers and also a Superfecta bet, which required her to pick a fourth number – a 7. Just how did she pick that last digit?

“I added the 5 and 3, which is 8, plus 8 is 16, and 1 plus 6 equals 7,” she said.

After buying her tickets at Common Brook Liquors, she left the store and went home to sleep because she had to work the night shift. When she awoke, she checked her numbers on mdlottery.com and discovered that the horses galloped to a 5-3-8-7 finish on one of the races that she played, delivering a big Superfecta win and a 5-3-8 Trifecta prize worth $2,600. Did she go to work that night? “Oh yes,” she said.

Her dreams have brought her to the Maryland Lottery Winner’s Circle on two other recent occasions. She claimed Racetrax prizes of $41,715 in November 2017 and $125,244 in February. The happy player plans to pay bills with her prize, share money with family members and, this fall, take a big trip with some of her windfall.

Her lucky retailer also is a winner! For selling a winning Racetrax ticket worth $10,000 or more, Common Brook Liquors, located at 9419 Common Brook Road in Owings Mills, earns a Lottery bonus of $326 — equal to 1 percent of the prize.

He wagered $1 per race for 10 races and received a $1 discount on the price of his ticket from the current $6 for $5 promotion under way through June 10. Baltimore woman wins $30,734 with Racetrax Trifecta bet

A 24-year-old Baltimore woman who listened to her gut — twice — wound up satisfying her hunger for a meal and for a big Maryland Lottery Racetrax win. She won $30,734!

The young woman and her sister, who came together to Lottery headquarters to claim the prize, said they woke up hungry on Saturday morning and in no mood to prepare breakfast. They decided to go to a local fast food restaurant to get something quick to eat. While there, however, the lucky woman’s gut began to talk to her again. This time, the gut feeling was an urge to play Racetrax.

“I just had a strange feeling to play,” said the winner. “I just knew that, one day, those numbers were going to come through for me.”

Those numbers are her lucky trio — 10, 11 and 12. The mother of one placed a Trifecta bet at St. John’s Sunoco in Reisterstown, picking those three horses to finish the race in that exact order. She wagered $1 per race for 20 races and got a $3 discount on the price of the ticket because of a $6 for $5 promotion going on through June 10. The promotion gives Racetrax players a $1 discount on every $6 purchase.

Later, when the retail manager checked her ticket on the Lottery website, she realized the horses ran a perfect race and gave her a $30,734 prize!

“I still can’t believe it,” she said. “I could barely speak when I told my sister.”

“She was acting so weird,” her sister added. “She just burst into tears.”

The winner said she is still in shock and has no initial plans for how she will enjoy her prize.

The Baltimore County Lottery retailer also benefits from this perfect bet. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket worth at least $10,000, St. John’s Sunoco at 11701 Reisterstown Road in Reisterstown earns a $307.34 bonus from the Lottery. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.

Anne Arundel County resident claims $27,482.10 win on June 21 bet

A lucky Glen Burnie Racetrax player who boxed his Superfecta bet earned a $27,482.10 prize and an invitation to the Maryland Lottery’s Winner Circle. However, the 67-year-old shied away from his turn in the spotlight, deciding instead to claim his prize and quietly go on his way.

The Anne Arundel County resident bet that horses 4, 10, 11 and 12 would cross the finish line together, in any order — and they did! The player placed his 20-draw bet on June 21 at Beer, Wine & Liquor Depot in Baltimore.

His big win is the third Racetrax prize of $20,000 or more this month! On June 4, a Hyattsville man claimed a $29,322 prize and a Baltimore woman claimed a $30,734 prize. Their lucky tickets came from the Hyattsville Convenience Store in Hyattsville and St. Johns Sunoco in Reisterstown.

For selling a winning Racetrax ticket with a prize of $10,000 or more, the Beer, Wine & Liquor Depot located at 5860 Baltimore National Pike earns a bonus of $274.82 from the Lottery – equal to 1 percent of the prize value.

Superfecta Box bet delivers big win before Fourth of July

A 74-year-old retiree from Baltimore City got an early start on her Fourth of July celebrations, when she won $43,651.60 playing Racetrax on the evening of July 3.

She won her Racetrax bonanza by placing a Superfecta Box bet in the computer-animated horse racing game. She selected the 7, 10, 11 and 12 horses to be the first four to cross the finish line in any order. On the last of the three races on her ticket, the order of finish was 11, 7, 10, 12, making the lucky lady a big winner.

“I guess I’m still in a bit of a shock, especially since I won over $20,000 playing the very same game a little over a year ago,” she said. “I guess Racetrax really is my favorite Lottery game to play.”

The lucky winner said she planned to put most of her prize money into her retirement savings account.

“I found out that when you retire, you can never have enough in your savings account,” she said. “This money certainly comes in handy.”

She purchased her winning Racetrax ticket at the Food Stop store located at 4900 Liberty Road in Baltimore. The retailer is a winner as well. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket worth at least $10,000, Food Stop will receive a bonus of $436.52, equal to 1 percent of the prize value.

Three winners visited Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore this week to claim the following prizes:

A Baltimore County resident won a $10,616 prize on a Racetrax ticket he purchased on July 5 at the Quick Mart located at 8604 Loch Raven Boulevard in Towson. He paid $40 for a 20-race Superfecta ticket with the Bonus option in the computer-animated horse racing game, selecting the 12, 1, 2 and 3 horses to be the first four to finish in that exact order. On the eighth of his 20 races, the 12,1, 2, 3 Superfecta hit, and the randomly generated Bonus multiplier was 4x. That quadrupled his base prize of $2,654 to a total of $10,616. The retailer is a winner as well. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket worth at least $10,000, the Quick Mart will receive a bonus of $106.16 – equal to 1 percent of the prize value.

The $10 scratch-off launched in April, and five of its $100,000 top prizes remain unclaimed, along with four $10,000 prizes, and thousands of additional prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000. Snake Delay, Brave Beagle Lead to Big Racetrax Win

This Upper Marlboro woman credits “Buddy the Beagle” with clearing the way for her Racetrax win. She claimed a $29,295.70 prize on a 10-cent Superfecta Box bet.

Upper Marlboro woman’s 10-cent bet yields $29,295.70 prize

A doggone snake outside her door stopped a frightened Upper Marlboro Racetrax fan in her tracks on July 23, leading to a temporary, but financially rewarding, delay of game. The 63-year-old said the snake-induced change in her Racetrax routine followed by “Buddy the Beagle” showing her the coast was clear led to a $29,295.70 payoff!

The winner was leaving her house to play the virtual ponies at Marlboro Country Liquors in Upper Marlboro when she opened the door and spotted the snake.

“The snake scared me back in,” she said.

Her husband, also a fan of Racetrax, surmised that recent heavy rains drove the snake from its lair. About an hour after retreating into her house, the woman let Buddy outside to run reconnaissance. Buddy went out the same door, sniffed around and did not encounter the snake.

The happy player resumed her excursion to her favorite Racetrax venue. She knew just what numbers she would play when she arrived at Marlboro Country Liquors. A few weeks back, the Prince George’s County resident got a ticket for the relatively high-odds Superfecta Box combination of 8, 9, 10 and 12, and had played the set ever since.

“I liked the numbers,” she said. Her strategy is to bet small on high-odds combinations: “10 cents, 20 races, no bonus.” The Bonus is the game’s multiplier feature. Her 10-cent bet played later than usual that day returned the five-digit payout. The big win she credits to Buddy isn’t her first big Racetrax prize, said the lucky lady.

“Every few days we’re hitting something,” she said, noting that she and her husband stopped to play on July 24 before claiming her prize at Lottery headquarters. He won $725.20! Although he generally plays random numbers, the husband based his numbers that day on a Candy Crush game he played. Her big windfall, the winner said, will go straight into her bank account.

Her lucky Lottery retailer also has reason to celebrate. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket of more than $10,000, Marlboro Country Liquors at 14808 Main Street earns a bonus from the Lottery equal to 1 percent of the prize ($292.95).

Landover’s Lucky ‘Lady Dee’ hits for $60,828.50 in Racetrax

“Lady Dee” of Landover hit it big by following a friend’s suggestion to place a Superfecta Box bet on horses 9, 10, 11 and 12.

Scores big win with 10-cent Superfecta Box bet

When it comes to cashing in on Racetrax, “Lady Dee” of Landover is a regular winner. However, there was nothing regular about the performance of the horses she picked on July 25. Her 10-cent Superfecta Box bet on e-ponies 9, 10, 11 and 12 paid $60,828.50 to the 55-year-old player.

A friend introduced “Lady Dee” to Racetrax a few years back and she’s played — and won — ever since.

“I won $112 on a three-times Bonus!” she said, remembering an early Racetrax experience where the game’s Bonus multiplier made her day. While she plays Pick 3 and Pick 4, and buys the occasional Mega Millions ticket, Racetrax remains her favorite Maryland Lottery game. “Lady Dee” enjoys the game because she likes the odds, or at least the frequency with which she wins. About two weeks prior to her big score on July 25, she won $2,800.

As for how she picks her horses, “Lady Dee” says she has no particular system other than sticking with her selected combination for several races. A friend suggested she play the numbers that led to her big win, for example, and she bet the same four horses for 20 races at Primos Liquors in Landover.

As for her prize, “Lady Dee” plans to add some of the windfall to her retirement fund and may possibly take a trip.

Primos Liquors’ proprietor also has reason to celebrate her Racetrax prowess. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket of more than $10,000, the retailer located at 7740 Landover Road earns a bonus from the Lottery equal to 1 percent of the prize ($608.28).

The “King & Queen of McDonald’s” are celebrating their royal Racetrax win.

Happy couple enjoys $30,734 win on $1 Trifecta bet

A Baltimore couple who enjoy playing rounds of Racetrax together walked hand-in-hand through Maryland Lottery headquarters after claiming a $30,734 prize on the computer-animated horse racing game.

“I’m so nervous,” said the Queen, whose $1 Trifecta bet on horses 10, 11 and 12 brought home a princely sum.

The pair plays Racetrax regularly at Edgewood Amoco BP in Edgewood, which is the home of their lucky win and a McDonald’s restaurant. Lottery luck found them there on July 27, after the “King and Queen of McDonald’s” — as they dubbed themselves — played a series of games. The Queen confesses that she bets according to her King’s suggestions.

“I just went along for the ride,” she said, smiling. Her noble steeds took heed and rode across the finish line together.

The grandmother of one and mother of three is a federal government employee, while her King is a professional driver and grandfather of three. They plan to put their royal prize in the bank to enjoy later.

Their lucky Lottery retailer, which they call the “Little Edgewood Casino” because so many players have won there, also shares in the fun. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket valued at more than $10,000, the business earns a bonus of $307.34 from the Lottery – equal to 1 percent of the prize.

The winner added the Bonus option to both tickets, and when a 10x Bonus was drawn for his winning race, it multiplied the base prize on each ticket from $1,197 to $11,970. The Prince George’s County retailer is a winner as well. For selling the two winning Racetrax tickets worth at least $10,000, the Quick Mart will receive a bonus of $119.70 for each ticket – equal to 1 percent of the prize values.

Gaithersburg Racetrax Fan Walks Away, Then Hits for $11,390

Gaithersburg Racetrax fan “Mike” is on track to defray the cost of a possible destination wedding for his daughter, thanks to his $11,390 prize.

‘I hope she never needs it,’ dad says of winnings now on hand for daughter’s wedding

Though he plays Racetrax regularly, big winner “Mike” of Gaithersburg has an unusual process for playing the simulated horse-racing game: he doesn’t watch.

“I put the bet in and walk away,” he told Maryland Lottery officials when he cashed in his $11,390 winning ticket. This strategy has worked for him for two big payoffs; he won about $14,000 several years ago. On Aug. 5, he placed bets at Derwood Beer & Wine in Derwood on a series of races and moved on to other errands. When he returned to check his tickets, the lucky Montgomery County man found that a $1 Trifecta Box bet on horses 4, 5 and 6 was a major prize winner. He added the Bonus option to his ticket, and the 10X Bonus for his winning race multiplied his base prize of $1,139 to $11,390.

“Mike,” as he called himself for his Lottery publicity, reports having no immediate plans for the proceeds. He plans to put the windfall into his savings account. A celebration will be in order, he said, only after he wins big in Powerball or Mega Millions, which are the only two Maryland Lottery games he plays other than Racetrax. The recent Racetrax winnings, meanwhile, will be available to defray the expenses of a destination wedding for his daughter.

“I hope she never needs it,” Mike said, cracking a big smile.

For selling the winning ticket, Derwood Beer & Wine at 17601 Redland Road in the Montgomery County community of Derwood, also benefits. The Lottery retailer earns a bonus from the Lottery equal to 1 percent of the winning amount ($113.90).

Silver Spring Lottery retailer is home of big win

A Montgomery County man just put Rockville on the Lottery winners map after claiming a $13,971 prize on a Racetrax Trifecta bet.

The 65-year-old picked horses 8, 9 and 12 to finish in that exact order and paid $5 for his ticket — $1 each for five races on Aug. 4. On the last of the five races, his 8-9-12 Trifecta hit.

The lucky winner bought his ticket at Long Branch Beer & Wine located at 649 University Boulevard East in Silver Spring. The retailer is a winner as well. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket worth at least $10,000, the store earns a $139.71 bonus from the Lottery — equal to 1 percent of the prize value.

Horseracing Fan Scores $14,760 Racetrax Win With Birth Date Bet

Williamsport man enjoys playing the ponies, be they simulated or real

Asked if he has a formula for winning, a Washington County man who hit for $14,760 in the Maryland Lottery’s Racetrax game said: “It’s easy. I play my birthday.”

He switches up the month and day, and when he played on Aug. 10 at the Improved Order of Red Men Tribe #84 lodge in Williamsport, the lucky player added the number 10 and placed a $1 Trifecta bet on 5, 10 and 7. The result was a five-digit prize!

The 50-something winner, who enjoys traveling to horse tracks around the country to bet on actual thoroughbred races, is so passionate about the sport that he keeps track of jockeys the way a baseball fan might follow a favorite pitcher or hitter.

The Williamsport resident became a Racetrax enthusiast about five years ago. That pursuit began when he was eating lunch at the Williamsport lodge of Red Men  ̶  a civic organization established in 1887 that supports various charitable, youth and educational programs  ̶  and saw the game on a monitor. He played 1, 5 and 7 boxed, hit for $480, and said, “Man, this is pretty sweet!” He’s been a regular ever since, playing a couple times a week.

The winner also plays Keno from time to time, saying he prefers the two games because they allow him to play his lucky birthday numbers. This Racetrax win was his second substantial hit on the game and eclipsed his former top prize of $5,800.

As for what he plans to do with the windfall, the lucky player said most of it will go into the bank. Some of the prize will go to his daughter in college, who will receive a little more than she asked for to pay for books for the fall semester.

Also in the winner’s circle is the lucky Washington County retailer. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more, the Improved Order of Red Men Tribe #84 lodge in Williamsport also benefits. The lodge earns a bonus from the Lottery equal to 1 percent of the prize ($147.60).
