Superfecta bet brings home the prize

A lucky Silver Spring man was all smiles at Lottery headquarters after finding the perfect combination of horses to bet on in a Feb. 16 Racetrax game. He won $40,757!

The loyal Lottery player purchased a five-draw Superfecta ticket, betting that No. 9, 6, 3 and 11 horses would cross the finish line in that exact order. And on the last of the five races he played, that’s exactly what the horses did! No stranger to winning, the 37-year-old said he also has found big-ticket prizes playing Pick 4.

This time, his lucky Lottery retailer was the Hyattsville Convenience Store in Prince George’s County. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more, the store located at 2230 University Boulevard East in Hyattsville will receive a $407.57 bonus from the Lottery. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.

Wins $23,590 on Racetrax Trifecta bet

A Harford County truck driver who won $64,000 a few years ago playing Racetrax experienced a case of déjà vu after his horses galloped to a $23,590 win.

The 60-year-old visited Hawkins Point Citgo in Baltimore and played 10 races to once again land a huge win.

“I was surprised that those numbers came out when they did,” the lucky man said. He plays the Lottery daily, using his own numbers, and likes to anticipate which numbers will and won’t play again. His Trifecta bet that horses No. 12, 11 and 9 would finish in that exact order put him back on the road to riches.

The Bel Air man has kept his great news under wraps and plans to keep his win a secret. The father of two children and grandfather of one, he plans to share small amounts with family members from time to time. The remainder, the lucky winner said, will go to pay down bills.

His lucky retailer was Hawkins Point Citgo located at 6301 Efficiency Way in Baltimore. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more, the city retailer will receive a bonus of $$235.90 from the Lottery – equal to 1 percent of the prize.

Finds lucky ticket at Corner Lounge in Upper Marlboro

The Maryland Lottery wants to meet the mystery Racetrax player who won the second largest prize in the game’s history on Wednesday, March 22.

The retailer that sold the $194,188 ticket, the Corner Lounge, is located just down the street from the Lottery retailer who sold the largest-ever Racetrax ticket. On Dec. 10, 2015, a Washington, D.C. resident won $361,842 at a Wawa located at 163 Crain Highway in Upper Marlboro. The Corner Lounge sits at 105 Crain Highway, just a half-mile from the Wawa.

The new winner has 182 days to claim the prize in person at Lottery headquarters, located at 1800 Washington Blvd. in Baltimore. Lottery officials recommend players sign the back of winning tickets and keep them in a safe place until they can claim prizes.

The retailer is also a winner. Corner Lounge will receive a $1,941.88 bonus from the Lottery for selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.

A near-record Racetrax win put Paul “Pickles” McDonald (behind check) in the Winner’s Circle with friend Eric Gordon (right).

Superfecta Box bet leads to 2nd largest prize in the game’s history in Maryland

An amazing Racetrax Superfecta Box bet left all of Paul “Pickles” McDonald’s three previous prizes in the dust and put Corner Lounge in Upper Marlboro on the lucky retailer roster. The avid player’s $194,188 prize earned him a spot in the Maryland Lottery record book, too, for winning the second largest prize in the game since the Lottery launched Racetrax in 2006.

The key to the Bowie resident’s win was a longshot Superfecta Box combination bet coupled with the game’s Bonus option. The owner of Supreme Landscaping in Bowie, Paul told Lottery officials he prefers the high payoff that long odds deliver. Those long odds gave him large Lottery prizes in the past. His latest trip to the Winner’s Circle began when the 46-year-old experienced the feeling that the 9, 10, 11 and 12 Racetrax horses might finish in the top four spots later that evening.

The 46-year-old went into action! Paul placed a 10-cent Superfecta Box bet on several races, paying for each of the possible four-horse combinations. He also added the game’s Bonus option – a wager of $4.80 per race.

Sure enough, with a few races left, Paul saw some familiar horses in the winner’s circle and rushed to see if he won a hefty purse. The ticket checker confirmed his suspicions! The happy man recalls that he began to shout and wail excitedly. “I was cussing and shouting ‘I hit,’ ” Paul said.

He immediately called his longtime friend Eric Gordon, who was asleep, to share the great news. The pair presented the lucky ticket together at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim Paul’s prize. He plans to use his winnings to pay bills and may browse at a Cadillac dealership in the near future.

The Upper Marlboro corridor where the $194,188 ticket was sold may be a hot spot for Lottery winners. The recent win at the Corner Lounge located at 105 Crain Highway is only a half mile away from the largest-ever Racetrax win (Wawa – $361,842). The Corner Lounge will receive a $1,941.88 bonus from the Lottery for selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.

Ellicott City man walks away a winner

Sometimes, you just get lucky. A Howard County man who bought a $2.40 Racetrax Superfecta Box ticket at Speedy Liquors in Baltimore had no idea that the four horses on his ticket would gallop to a prize-winning finish.

Thanks to the efforts of the No. 1, 10, 11 and 12 horses, the lucky player’s Superfecta Box bet yielded a $13,005 prize. A Superfecta Box wager requires the four horses selected to finish 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th in any order.

The 51-year-old Ellicott City resident also brought Lottery luck to the retailer. Speedy Liquors at 7101 Darlington Drive in Baltimore will receive a bonus of $130 from the Lottery for selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.

Heavy Derby Day Rain Drives Racetrax Player into Winner’s Circle

Rainy day Racetrax wagering gave this this “Lucky Sgt.” a $15,252 prize.

Superfecta bet gives Hagerstown man a $15,252 prize

A Hagerstown man who loves to attend the Kentucky Derby couldn’t do so this year, so he planned a trip to Charles Town Races in West Virginia to watch the race and place his bet.

Mother Nature had other ideas – and so did Lady Luck! Saturday’s rainy weather worsened and a heavy downpour hit just as the disabled U.S. Army veteran started driving. He steered through the storm to Shop N Save in Hagerstown, where he played the post number of Derby favorite Always Dreaming and added family birthdays to a Racetrax Superfecta bet that paid off to the tune of 15,252!

The married father typically plays Racetrax at the Washington County grocery store, but doesn’t wait to see if he won. He followed that routine on Derby Day, heading home after choosing the 4, 8, 5 and 6 horses on his 20-draw ticket.

“I checked it later and there it was,” he said of his biggest Racetrax win ever. “I’ve been waiting for this for a long time!”

The Army sergeant took the winning ticket to his wife and said that he just stood there, silently and in shock. “She said, ‘What are you looking at me like that for?’ I said, ‘I’ve got some news’ and then I told her,” the happy man said. He plans to pay bills with the prize and use some of the money toward a trip that he and his wife are planning this summer.

Had the “Lucky Sgt.” (as he dubbed himself) bet on the Kentucky Derby using the same numbers he wagered on his Racetrax ticket, his bank account would be a lot emptier. Other than Always Dreaming (#5), the horses in the 4, 6 and 8 post positions finished 11th, 12th and 19th.

The retailer that sold the lucky ticket is a winner as well. The Shop N Save store at 18360 Collede Road in Hagerstown will receive a bonus of $152.52 – equal to 1 percent of the prize value.

Bel Air player finds Lottery luck in Baltimore

A 61-year-old Harford County man braved a steady rain on May 11 to visit Lottery headquarters in Baltimore and claim an $18,740 Racetrax prize on a ticket he purchased at a Baltimore Royal Farms store.

The lucky Bel Air man placed a Trifecta wager that horses No. 12, 10 and 9 would finish in that exact order. One of the 20 races on his April 4 ticket produced the big win.

For selling a winning Racetrax ticket valued at more than $10,000, the lucky retailer is also in the Winner’s Circle. The Royal Farms store located at 6411 Fort Smallwood Road in Baltimore will receive a $187.40 bonus from the Lottery – equal to 1 percent of the prize.

May is a great month to try your luck at Racetrax. Now through May 28, the Lottery is offering Racetrax players a $6 for $5 promotion. Any $6 Racetrax purchase will receive a $1 discount! The maximum discount you can receive is $5 on any ticket valued at $30 or more.

Players will see the following message printed on their tickets when the discount is applied: “Congratulations! You just received $(X) off your Racetrax wager!”

Baltimore resident wins $10,599 prize on a $1 wager

A housekeeper from a Baltimore-area hospital really cleaned up at the track this week. While taking a break from shopping, she settled in to play the Maryland Lottery’s Racetrax game and won $10,599 on a $1 wager!

The 66-year-old Baltimore resident found herself in the Lottery Winner’s Circle after taking a break from shoe shopping at Lexington Market. The lucky lady made her way to nearby Lottery retailer Downtown Tobacco to place a few wagers. Because she was unfamiliar with the game, she studied the virtual races, noted finishes and planned her bets. Three wagers gave her a taste of success as she won small prizes on each race.

Before leaving the retailer, she decided to try one more game and change her wagering technique. She bet the long odds of winning with a Superfecta bet that requires players to select four horses to finish in exact order.

The woman’s Racetrax studies paid off! Her horses finished in exact order – 9, 5, 4 and 3 – and turned her $1 wager into the $10,599 prize. The odds of selecting that winning combination are approximately 1 in 15,914.

The happy player asked a clerk to check her ticket and confirm the win. When told the size of her prize, she began to shake with excitement, she said.

“Lord, have mercy Jesus! I thought I was about to faint!” said the winner.

She plans to use the prize to purchase a new dining room set and will share some of the winnings with family members.

Downtown Tobacco, which is located at 500 West Lexington Street, is also a winner. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket worth $10,000 or more, the store receives a bonus from the Lottery of $105 – equal to 1 percent of the prize.

Racetrax players can enjoy a special promotion now through May 28. ANY $6 Racetrax purchase will receive a $1 discount! The maximum discount given players is $5 on any ticket valued at $30 or more.

This “Lucky Sgt.” from Hagerstown repeated his Racetrax success.

Hagerstown man wins second time in just over a week using familiar combination

While the horse-racing world wonders if Always Dreaming will collect the second jewel in the Triple Crown on Saturday, a Racetrax player from Hagerstown achieved a similar feat this week! “Lucky Sgt.” visited the Winner’s Circle at Maryland Lottery headquarters to collect a $15,252 prize, his second time winning that amount in just over a week.

The retired U.S. Army sergeant placed his Superfecta wager at the Hagerstown Shop N Save, playing a combination that corresponded with family birthdays and post positions for some of the favored Triple Crown mounts. Once again, his horses finished in exact order – 4, 8, 5 and 6 – winning the $15,252 prize. The odds of selecting that winning combination a single time are approximately 1 in 22,900.

Life as a secret Lottery winner is fun, he said. “Lucky Sgt.” posed at Lottery headquarters last week for a photo for the website and hid his face behind his giant winner’s check. “My photo is everywhere,” he said. Winner photos sometimes appear on Lottery monitors in counties where the winning tickets are sold.

Winning a second time is also a thrill. “I’m lucky, but this is something else,” said the Washington County resident.

As for why he played the same combination again: “If it ain’t broke, why fix it,” said the 58-year-old.

His first prize paid some bills and for a trip to Vegas, the happy winner said. His new windfall will allow him to complete some home and auto repairs and add to his savings.

Players can try to tap into the Lottery luck at his Hagerstown retailer by visiting Shop N Save, which is located at 18360 College Road. As a bonus for selling a winning Racetrax ticket worth $10,000 or more, the store receives a bonus from the Lottery of $152.52 – equal to 1 percent of the prize.

Racetrax players can enjoy a special promotion now through May 28. ANY $6 Racetrax purchase will receive a $1 discount! The maximum discount given players is $5 on any ticket valued at $30 or more.

A $1 bet turned a Columbia man into the 3rd largest Racetrax winner ever! He won a whopping $118,180.

Winning numbers from last year lead to 3rd largest prize in game’s history

A super-lucky Racetrax Superfecta winner has claimed the 3rd largest prize in the history of the game! The Columbia father of three won $118,180 on his bet placed at the Stevens Forest Exxon in Columbia.

The 54-year-old saw the 12, 4, 11 and 5 horses win – in that order – while watching a Racetrax game a year ago. Something told him those numbers would be lucky one day, so he saved them in his phone and finally played them last weekend.

“I don’t know why, but I decided to play those horses for five games,” the federal employee told Maryland Lottery officials. “I bought my ticket, headed home and checked it later. I couldn’t believe it.”

Although he won $5,000 playing Pick 4 in the past, this is by far his largest prize. Still trying to come to grips with the enormity of the win, the lucky player said he plans to pay some bills, save the rest of the prize and not tell anyone about his lucky day at the track!

The largest Racetrax prize ever won was on a $361, 842 Superfecta ticket sold in December 2015. More recently, in March 2017, a Bowie resident claimed the 2nd largest Racetrax prize – $194,188 – on a Superfecta Box bet.

The Howard County Lottery retailer that sold the winning ticket will win, too. Stevens Forest Exxon, which is located at 6300 Stevens Forest Road in Columbia, will receive a $1,181.80 bonus for selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.

Prince George’s County man acts on lucky feeling

A Fort Washington resident nagged by a lucky feeling about the next Racetrax  game finally rushed to the counter of his local Lottery retailer, F&W Convenience. He hoped to place a Trifecta Box bet on the number 8, 10 and 12 horses to win in any order. One of the retailer’s speedy clerks got his bet in just before the game closed and, just like that, the horses were off and running.

“I stayed and watched the game and saw the horses come up,” said the 51-year-old. He’d won big! “I quietly walked out of the store, but not before catching the eye of the salesperson. I told her, ‘I will see you tomorrow.’ ” He planned to do something nice for the clerk because his last-minute bet paid out $13,971!

The calm winner kept news of his good fortune to himself until the next morning.

“I called my boss to tell him I needed to head to Baltimore to take care of some business and asked for the day off,” he said. “Then, I called one of my co-workers and said we need to take a ride to Baltimore.” As she got in the car, he told her about his big Racetrax prize.

The happy winner was smiling from ear to ear all the way to Baltimore and his co-worker was just as happy for him. The lucky Prince George’s County resident plans to put his prize in the bank for now.

His Lottery retailer wins, too. F&W Convenience, which is located at 974 East Swan Creek Road in Fort Washington, will receive a $139 bonus for selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.

Superfecta Box bet brings home the big money

A 19-year-old Baltimore woman raced to Maryland Lottery headquarters to claim a $15,470 Racetrax prize on a ticket she bought the same day.

The city resident found her good fortune by placing a Superfecta Box bet on horses 4, 7, 11 and 12 to finish in any order. Visiting Woodlawn Mart in Baltimore inspired her decision to play. The lucky lady was shocked to see that her horses crossed the finished line in that exact order!

“I literally chose my horses by using a few family members’ birthdays,” she said. “This is one of the happiest moments of my life. I want to thank my dad who showed me how to even play Racetrax. This is definitely a cause for celebration.”

The lucky winner plans to use a portion of her prize to visit her native land of Nepal. “I would love to see my grandparents,” she said. “They’re getting up in age and I have been really wanting to see them. Now I can. I feel so lucky to be in the USA.”

Her retailer is also in the money for selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more. Woodlawn Mart located at 1818 Woodlawn Drive in Baltimore earned a $154.70 bonus from the Lottery.

“Ron & Ron” pose with their winning check for $47,291 playing Racetrax game.

$1 Superfecta bet pays off for friends

A pair of Brooklyn friends both named “Ron” are sure glad they decided to try their luck playing Racetrax. A $1 Superfecta quick-pick bet placed by one “Ron” for five races gave him a $47,291 prize!

“We played Racetrax on a whim and we won big on it,” said the other “Ron.” The friends play Maryland Lottery games often, they said, but have not won this big before. Their Superfecta bet gave them that big prize. The quick-pick bet required horses No. 4, 5, 9 and 11 to finish in that exact order – and they did! The probability of that happening was 1 in 71,009.

“Ron & Ron,” as they dubbed themselves, have a lot in common in addition to their name. Both are avid Lottery fans and military veterans, although they served in different branches of the military. The 68-year-old winning Ron plans to purchase a new truck with his prize and share some of the money with his friend.

Their lucky retailer, Dreams Inn located at 525 E. Patapsco Avenue in Brooklyn, is celebrating, too. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more, the Baltimore City retailer earned a $472 bonus from the Lottery.

Since its inception in 1973, Maryland Lottery and Gaming has awarded more than $23.3 billion in prizes to Lottery players and more than $15 billion in Lottery revenue to the State of Maryland. $1 Superfecta bet pays off big

An Ellicott City woman is super happy she recently learned how to play Racetrax. Typically a Mega Millions and Powerball player, she decided to give Racetrax a shot and wound up $29,530 richer.

Last Friday, the 46-year-old wife and mother played a $1 Racetrax Superfecta ticket for 20 draws at E-Z Convenience in Towson. Everything changed after the fifth game on her ticket.

“I was so excited,” she told Lottery officials. “I was watching the game and couldn’t believe it.”

The lucky winner said she chose the horses on the ticket – 8, 10, 6 and 3 – and they finished in that exact order to give her the $29,530 prize. The probability of that happening was 1 in 71,009.

When asked what she planned to do with her windfall, the Howard County resident said she wants to take a nice vacation.

E-Z Convenience located at 8104 Loch Raven Blvd. in Towson wins, too. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more, the Baltimore County retailer earned a $295 bonus from the Lottery. The lucky retailer is no stranger to winning. Just last month, on July 12, the store sold a $100,000 winning Powerball ticket to a Baltimore retiree.

Labor Day Weekend Win Gives Racetrax Player Déjà Vu

Finds his second big win on same holiday weekend

Two big Racetrax wins on Labor Day weekends several years apart gave a Baltimore city man a serious case of déjà vu.

The avowed Pick 4 player rarely tries other Lottery games and almost never – except on Labor Day weekend – plays Racetrax. While his favorite daily game has been very good to him over the years, his two biggest wins both came on a Labor Day weekend and involved the Maryland Lottery’s popular simulated horse racing game.

“I’m a Pick 4 man, but certain numbers, when I see them, just stick in my mind,” he said. “When I put enough of them together in my head, I get a ticket for a different game, like Multi-Match or Keno.”

This past Labor Day weekend was one of those times. For no particular reason, the 61-year-old city employee put the accumulated numbers into a 20-draw Racetrax Superfecta Box bet. To win, the four horses he chose – 7, 8, 10 and 11 – could finish in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place in any order and they did!

“When I went in to collect some of my Pick 4 winnings I checked the Racetrax ticket,” he said. “The cashier told me it was a winner and then, after scanning it, showed me that is was for $16,742.50. I was stunned, but it immediately dawned on me that it was Labor Day weekend two years ago when I’d won my biggest prize, Racetrax for $19,000. Everything had happened in almost exactly the same way at almost exactly the same time.”

Our lucky player’s prize is destined for the bank, he said, although some of the winnings may go toward an upcoming vacation with his wife.

Hobbits at 4517 Bowleys Lane in Baltimore served as the starting gate for the Racetrax game that put our player in the winner’s circle. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more, Hobbits earned a $167 bonus from the Lottery.
